Job Description – Nephrologist (Cardiovascular Hospital Setting)
The Nephrologist is responsible for the comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and management of renal disorders in patients with complex cardiovascular conditions. This role focuses on high-risk nephrology cases, including cardio-renal syndrome, acute kidney injury (AKI) following cardiac surgery, fluid overload in heart failure patients, and renal complications affecting critically ill cardiac ICU patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic renal disorders in cardiovascular and critically ill patients.
- Provide specialized care for patients with cardio-renal syndrome, AKI, and post-cardiac surgery renal complications.
- Manage renal replacement therapies, including CRRT and hemodialysis, for hemodynamically unstable patients.
- Monitor and optimize fluid balance, electrolyte levels, and acid-base status in cardiac ICU patients.
- Collaborate with cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, intensivists, and multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive treatment plans.
- Assess and manage renal complications associated with heart failure, cardiogenic shock, and cardiac interventions.
- Provide nephrology consultations across cardiac critical care and inpatient departments.
- Interpret laboratory investigations, renal diagnostic studies, and imaging findings to guide treatment decisions.
- Participate in pre-operative and post-operative management of cardiac surgery patients at risk for renal dysfunction.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- MD Degree with Board Certification or equivalent specialization in Nephrology.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of clinical experience in nephrology practice.
- Strong exposure to cardiac ICU, cardiovascular hospital, or critical care settings is highly preferred.
- Proven experience managing Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), AKI in post-cardiac surgery patients, and fluid overload in heart failure cases.
- Strong understanding of hemodynamic instability and renal management in critically ill cardiac patients.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary cardiac care teams.
- Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and patient management skills.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice, patient safety, and high-quality healthcare delivery.
